Indigo sets its sights on London as Rosie O’Donnell joins producing team

Following its acclaimed UK premiere at Curve in Leicester, the new musical Indigo is now planning a London premiere in 2027, with Emmy Award-winning entertainer and autism advocate Rosie O’Donnell joining the production team.
The new musical Indigo is heading towards a London premiere in 2027, with Rosie O’Donnell joining the producing team behind the production.
O’Donnell became involved with the musical after seeing its UK premiere at Curve in Leicester in 2025. The Emmy Award-winning entertainer, producer and longtime autism advocate will now co-produce the show alongside the team led by Lorenzo Thione, Joey Monda and Jay Kuo of Sing Out, Louise! Productions.
Describing the production as “the most beautiful and authentic depiction of autism in a kid” she had ever seen, O’Donnell said: “This story needs to be seen by the world.”
Indigo tells the story of three generations of women as they navigate family relationships, autism, Alzheimer’s, addiction and loss. At the centre of the musical is Emma, a non-speaking autistic teenager with synaesthesia, whose experience of the world is brought to life through colour, light and music.
The musical had its UK premiere at Curve’s Studio Theatre from 26 June to 19 July 2025, starring Lisa Maxwell as Elaine, Rebecca Trehearn as Beverly and Katie Cailean as Emma. The Leicester production also featured Nuno Queimado, Hugo Rolland and Tania Mathurin.
Importantly, the role of Emma has been played by a neurodivergent performer in every production of Indigo to date, reflecting the creative team’s commitment to authentic representation and collaboration with members of the autism and neurodivergent communities.
With a book by Kait Kerrigan and music and lyrics by Scott Evan Davis, Indigo was conceived by Davis, Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione and directed by Catie Davis. The creative team also includes musical supervisor and orchestrator Brad Haak, scenic and video designer Andrzej Goulding, lighting designer Jake DeGroot and sound designer Matt Peploe.
Further details about the planned London production, including the venue, dates, casting and ticket information, are yet to be announced. However, the arrival of Rosie O’Donnell as part of the producing team marks an important new chapter for the musical as it moves towards its next stage of development.
Having already made an impact with its Leicester premiere, Indigo could soon bring its distinctive, sensory-led exploration of family and neurodivergence to London audiences.
